Shimano Dura Ace PD-7900 Road Pedals (Carbon) Reviews
9 of 9 people found the following review helpful High end pedals for a high end bike, July 11, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Shimano Dura Ace PD-7900 Road Pedals (Carbon) (Sports) These pedals work exactly as you would expect from Shimano Dura Ace. I have used the ultegra level pedals for nearly 10 years and never had a complaint. I wanted to dress my new bike up with a new set of pedals, and the look of these are perfect! The large, low profile platform does a great job distributing the pressure on your shoe. They feel very secure on the cleat when snapping in and during the release. The package includes a yellow set of cleats (floating, vs the red fixed style). I find these cleats to work very well and are relatively inexpensive to replace when they get worn. They are extremely light and on par with most other carbon pedals on the market. Installation is very easy and simply requires an 8mm hex tool instead of a spanner wrench. They are very expensive, but if you appreciate high quality and performance, you can't get much better than the new 7900 series pedals.

The newer PD-7900 pedals have a carbon composite core instead, and thus shaving the weight by 30 gms; the PD-7800 pedals weigh 281 gms, whereas the PD-7900 pedals weigh 251 gms. The pedal platform is basically the same on both pedals. I've always been a huge fan of Shimano's SPD-SL pedal technology and wide pedal base, allowing ease of on-off pedal action and power transfer. A wider base, I feel, provides more comfort because of less pressure on the feet.
It's been a long time since I used another set of pedals other than Shimano DA, so I can't give a fair comparison with another brand. However, when I first tried the PD-7800 I was impressed with the performance and comfort of the pedals and convinced that these pedals are suited for me; thus far I'm just as satified with the PD-7900 pedals.
One last note: I price-shopped before making my purchasing on Amazon.com. At... Read more
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful shimano dura ace PD-7900 pedals, August 24, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Shimano Dura Ace PD-7900 Road Pedals (Carbon) (Sports) The pedals come with one set of cleats. Extremely stable platform, I like the tight fit when engaged. Very light. Nothing negative at all, very easy to install and adjust. The release tension goes from stiff to very stiff, so perhaps not for the lighest riders or those with exit concerns. Entry is single sided but very easy since the pedals hang appropriately. Combined weight of carbon pedals plus cleats is basically as light or lighter compared to anything from any other manufacturer. Overall highly recommended.
