So going from those to the Shimano Ultegra took a little getting used to. It's similar to driving a stick shift. It takes a few times to get it down, but once you do you realize that it is so much more fun. I would recommend sitting on your bike next to a wall to support yourself on and practiced clipping in and clipping out. The two biggest things I notice is one, getting clipped back in from a stop can take a little practice and the second, I found that these are way more comfortable then my former pair of pedals. They sport a bigger platform and I found that I could pedal longer with less strain on my feet. I'm really glad that I purchased these and I am looking forward to many miles with them.
14 of 16 people found the following review helpful Quality pedal, but..., October 11, 2010 This review is from: Shimano Ultegra PD-6700 SL Pedal (Sports) I tried these to compare to my Speedplay pedals. The Ultegra is a really stable, well built pedal with a spectacular reputation. Your foot is really locked in, and I felt confident in sprints that I would not pull out.
BUT it is not for me. The float is centering, meaning although there is 6 degrees of float, the cleat requires some force to utilize the float, and that force places stress on the knee. I have Speedplay pedals that have eliminated any knee and ankle trouble for me. 25 degrees of non-centering float. Speedplay X/5 Road Pedal

The 6 degree "float" seems fine to me as I have adjusted the cleats on the bottom of my Shimano SH-R132L Cycling Shoes to minimize the amount of float required. They are supposed to be self centering and other users have said this puts strain on their knees, but I am not aware of this stress with correctly calibrated cleats (could be because I'm using all Shimano components for shoes/cleats/pedals???). Being a beginner they are stiff to clip out off (even on the lowest setting) and do take a little practice, but having used them for 2-3 rides a week for 4+ weeks now I find the entry/exit second nature. The clip-in is a firm, comforting "click" leaving no doubt that your engaged. I love the width of the pedal which allows a very precise down-stroke. There may be other riders/commenter's more...
